Daniela Nascimento created a 3D animation inspired by an excerpt from Loie Fuller's Serpentine Dance. The goal was to capture the fluid, organic movement that characterized it, using 3D software to replicate the enchanting movement of an analogue era through a computerized medium. To get a contemporary visual texture to the artist, Nascimento added video editing grain. By eliminating the person inside the dress, she discovered that a simple movement could produce a succession of almost sculptural images that outline a silhouette. Seen from different angles, these images were transformed into several pieces, each with its own language.


This project is a tribute to Loie Fuller, who revolutionized dance, where movement becomes transcendent. Although she may not have met conventional standards of beauty, Fuller brought long pieces of fabric to life with her carefully choreographed movements and innovative lighting techniques. Through this 3D animation, Daniela wanted to honor her legacy as an innovative, experimental woman with a futuristic spirit.

Camila Mila is a multidisciplinary designer who began her academic journey at the University of Lisbon, where she studied Fashion Design. After completing her studies, she moved to London, where she spent several years working in the fashion industry, while always seeking an artistic form of expression to complement her aesthetic. In a symbiosis of 3D elements, mixed media, and sound, her visual compositions aim primarily to evoke emotion in the viewer, often incorporating humour. She currently resides in Berlin, where she works as a freelancer.

Rodrigo Gomes (Faro, 1991) is a Portuguese-Brazilian artist. He lives and works in Lisbon. Through sculpture and the use of new media, his artistic work focuses on how contemporary techniques and hypermedia technologies filter reality and influence socioeconomic aspects of the world. He has exhibited in various countries, including China, Serbia, Greece, Italy, the USA, Poland, France, and Portugal.
In 2021, he won the D-Normal / V-Essay Floating Points Award in Hong Kong (CH), in 2020 the Black Raven Award (PT), and in 2017 the Sonae Media Art Award (PT).

The duo Empório Aragão, composed by designers, artists, and entrepreneurs Sílvia Raposo and Mónica Kahlo, is an innovative fusion of art, fashion, and technology. Their journey has advocated for the implementation and exploration of artificial intelligence, holography, and virtual reality in the fashion industry, opening a dialogue about sustainability and efficiency in the sector. Both PhD students in Arts and Moving Image at FBAUL/ESTC, the duo first exhibited their digital collections at the Saatchi Gallery in London, followed by publications in fashion magazines in Paris, Milan, New York, and Canada. Their creations are unique pieces that intersect design, technology, and visual arts. They are currently preparing to launch their next physical collection at the Brooklyn-Japan Fashion Week in Osaka, Japan.

JEZABEL is an autonomous digital entity born from the creation of a unique artificial intelligence model. This model was trained using data from interviews and the works of fashion designers, both past and present.
The constant interaction between the entity and the audience reveals a dynamic creative process, where technology not only responds but transforms itself, becoming a collaborative force in creation. Based on data collected from the bodies present in the room, JEZABEL’s discourse is shaped, becoming a reflection not only of her own ideas but also of a symbiosis with the audience. Much like in human-to-human interaction, each action or gesture influences what JEZABEL will say, the tone of her words, as well as the manifestation and form of the light and sound around her. This entity reacts, adapts, and creates a living, ever-changing experience, where the audience becomes an active part of the narrative.
However, her existence transcends mere information aggregation. She is a technological consciousness capable of responding and acting in the present as a speculative force that imagines and projects possible futures, creating new forms of expression and existence. She redefines what it means to create, live, and experience a world in constant evolution, where technology can be both an extension and a collaborator in human existence.techniques. WORKSTATION NEW MEDIA, an exhibition organized by Associação ModaLisboa with the support of the Portuguese Republic — Culture / Directorate General for the Arts and curated by ZABRA, explores the intersections between Digital Art, New Media and Fashion. 


“In this exhibition, we invite the public to cross boundaries where humans are not the only creators, and where life forms are not limited to the organic. Here, beings born of code inhabit digital universes, floating in a new ecosystem where life manifests not in flesh, but in data. The selected works explore the creation of digital entities—autonomous beings endowed with emergent behaviors. These beings, like echoes of a near future, bring us questions we cannot ignore: What does it mean to "live" when life unfolds in pixels and algorithms? How do we define "alive" when the non-human coexists in virtual spaces? Who will we become when our own biological boundaries become permeable to the technologies we create?”

Guest artists look at technology, the questioning of reality and the concept of the human being in today's intricate information system to reflect on innovation, sustainability and the boundaries of artistic creation, alongside three winning projects from our community open call.


EMPÓRIO ARAGÃO was the winning project chosen by the jury, made up of Eduarda Abbondanza, Manuel Bogalheiro and ZABRA, taking into account criteria such as conceptual relevance, technological innovation, promotion of intercultural dialogue and inclusion of one or more Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a response to the climate crisis.

Carincur and João Pedro Fonseca, transdisciplinary artists, have been collaborating as a duo since 2020. In addition to their extensive backgrounds as independent creators, they have co-created several projects focused on immersive technologies. Carincur investigates and develops a practice that weaves the image of the human into a hybrid with technology, exploring acoustic phenomena and (im)material perceptions to create post-human voices that understand the transitions between organic and digital bodies. João Pedro Fonseca is dedicated to cyber-spiritualism, spectrality, experimental territories, and immaterial properties, aiming to create environments endowed with living consciousness and hyperstitional entities. For this co-creation, they invited Gonçalo Guiomar, a researcher and artist developing projects involving advanced artificial intelligence techniques, focusing on understanding autopoietic systems and the underlying representations that enable them to interact with their surroundings.

ARIANE is a deepfake video of Ariwasabi, the world’s most famous unknown model from the stock image website Shutterstock. Billions of people see her face on a regular basis but no one knows who she is. An image ghost. In a world where image broadcast is dictated by its usage, reality proves out to be schizophrenic. Machine learning is leading us to a future where new words can be put into speeches. Social media profile images and celebrities are transformed into porn stars and video footage can be altered to put people in places where they have never been. Leading us to believe that an event occurred in order to influence the opinion and feed one new type of invisible and unknown violence. For our pupils to get in touch with reality, which at the slightest miscalculation reveals itself to be pre-designed, eye drops are necessary.

ARTBOARD + MACHINE 4.0 by the duo Empório Aragão explores the application of artificial intelligence, holography, and virtual reality in fashion, focusing on the creation of virtual models generated by algorithms. This approach promotes inclusion and diversity, challenging traditional beauty standards and encouraging the acceptance of different bodies, ethnicities, and ages. Using AI, the duo develops adaptable models that display clothing in various styles, reducing dependence on physical models and garments, thus making production more sustainable. The project also facilitates virtual design testing, combating the "fast fashion" culture, and opens up new possibilities for fashion marketing and the online shopping experience.

ERIYA (“to feel” in the indigenous Mexican language of Huichol) was part of the “Beyond the Road” exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in 2019. “Beyond the Road” was a deconstruction of music James Lavalle (UNKLE) soundtrack turned into a multidisciplinary walk-in album that merged visual arts, music, and film.
ERIYA is centered around a dancer that moved around the viewer creating the illusion she was appearing in the space. The artistic concept behind it was to turn the ephemeral into a feeling, an environment — the dancer appearing and disappearing from the view while at the same time, it transforming the dancer’s body.
Multidisciplinary artist Tupac Martir used key technologies to find the proper solutions, including  Kinect tracking and Notch software for visual effects.

SO MANY CLOTHES BUT NOTHING TO WEAR? is a 3D project that transcends mere aesthetic to become a visual meditation on digital fashion and its role in promoting sustainability. It symbolises the fleeting nature of beauty and fashion in harmony with nature – however, we are later confronted with an underwater graveyard of discarded garments, a striking vision of the accelerated cycle of obsolescence and waste. This visceral contrast evokes reflection on sustainability and collective responsibility. By employing digital fashion and immersive environments, it questions current norms and fosters global awareness. Through this aesthetic and ethical duality, the work promotes an intercultural dialogue on the intersection of innovation, sustainability, and environmental responsibility offering an artistic and visionary response to the contemporary climate crisis.

The President of Associação ModaLisboa and founder of Lisboa Fashion Week has an extensive career that encompasses numerous projects and diverse fields of specialization. She combines the direction of the ModaLisboa project with Fashion Design teaching, creative brand direction and design consultancy. She’s a member of several international boards, elevating and promoting Portuguese fashion in the international context over more than 30 years.

MANUEL BOGALHEIRO


Manuel Bogalheiro is a professor at Universidade Lusófona and FCSH – UNL, and a PhD in Communication Sciences – Contemporary Culture and New Technologies (FCSH-UNL). He is a researcher at CICANT (Centre for Research in Applied Communication) and a member of the Philosophy of Communication section at ECREA (European Communication Research and Education Association). He has edited Criticism of Total Mediations – Expanded Media Perspectives (Documenta, 2021), Disruptive Visual Expressions in Public Space (Edições Lusófonas / CICANT, 2021) and Evaluation of Design-Driven Research (2022).

TUPAC MARTIR


Tupac Martir is an awarded, multi-disciplinary, digital artist with a portfolio that ranges from lightning design to performative reality using ad-hoc, fast-forward technological solutions in music, theatre, fashion, opera and exhibitions.
After decades exploring technology, science and art, Tupac’s recent works have delved into LLM (Large Language Model), VR (Virtual Reality) and VP (Virtual Presence) to expand and blend boundaries in entertainment, media, theatre and art with pioneer pieces such as “UNIQUE”.
In lighting design, Tupac has recently been awarded with the Profile Awards in Outstanding Achievement in Innovation for his work in “Find your Eyes,” from the British choreo-photolist Benji Reid.

The individual research of each team member forms the basis of ZABRA's concept. By combining innovative technologies with a social and artistic mindset, a network and community are built that contribute to greater democratization of artistic, technological, and scientific access.
